Olympic Studios closes: A sad day for music

On January the 30th 2009, Olympic Studios closed its doors for the last time.

This legendary recording studio in South-West London has been the home of music from such great recording artists as Jimi Hendrix, The Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin in its time, and the closure signifies the end of an era for the recording industry.
Olympic has up until now braved onwards, producing great music by the likes of Eric Clapton, The Who, David Bowie, Thin Lizzy, The Beatles, The Small Faces, King Crimson, Sammy Davis Jr., Paul McCartney, Björk, Roger Waters, INXS, Hawkwind and Queen amongst many others, winning numerous UK recording industry awards for “Best Studio” along the way. 
EMI's decision to sell Olympic, in Barnes, south-west London, comes days after the troubled music group U-turned on a decision to sell Abbey Road studios after public outcry over the future ownership of the site where the Beatles recorded most of their records.

con Jay Z registra nel 2004 quello che è stato chiamato Grey Album, di cui è stata parzialmente bloccata la pubblicazione su richiesta della EMI perché contiene campioni non leciti dei Beatles (che compaiono nell'artwork apparso per un breve periodo sul sito di DM) il senso è: mischiare il White Album dei Beatles con il Black Album di Jay Z. il lavoro è ancora grezzo, sembra non finito. se questo fosse il risultato finale, ★ ★

nel 2009 firma Dark Night of the Soul, proggietto multimediale che coinvolge Mark Linkous degli Sparklehorse oltre a Frank Black, Iggy Pop, Julian Casablancas degli Strokes, Gruff Rhys (?), e Nina Persson dei Cardigans (màstica) per la parte audio, e il Davide Lynch per quella visiva. anche in questo caso riesce a litigare con la EMI (che è la sua etichetta!) e il cofanetto distribuito contiene le foto lynchiane ma NON la musica: si trova solo un cd-r vergine "con cui fare ciò che si crede" (ovvero non è possibile scaricarlo legalmente). è un po' eterogeneo, ★ ★
